House Lannister

ISSUE #50

We know that vanity stems from deep insecurity: no brag comes untethered from something to prove, some perceived injustice it's trying to conceal. If you're truly comfortable with your status, it remains unremarkable. If you aren't considering the alternative, your privilege is going to pass unnoticed. This is why class ignorance manifests so naturally, and is such a hard thing to shake.

The Lannisters, for all their atrocious behavior, are not ignorant in this regard. They know exactly how thin the tightrope of their power is. They were born on a mountain of gold; there was no merit in their rise. Each compensates for this instability in their own way, finding agency in beauty, or valor, or wit. These are the people who were expected to get straight A's, but were betrayed by neurochemistry at every turn. We get a POV chapter from all three of Tywin's offspring, and it's only when you enter their heads that you realize the golden children are tortured too.

Enjoy these Lannister songs in the Light of the Seven, and think about how it all must look from the top.
