Guestwyrms: Girl's Club

ISSUE #66

This week's issue is guest-curated and -written by Mobs Robertson (@yoyomobs).

We all need ways to feel less like minions in the everyday corporate slog of modern America. Ways that do not involve waking up earlier.

I’m predisposed to turning to woman-made music. For a stretch of several weeks in 2007, my mom and I had a bizarre morning ritual of blasting Gloria Estefan’s “Conga" after the male energy had vacated the house. It was a tradition with a short shelf life, but it was magical while it lasted.

My recent Diet Cig binge re-lit the fire, and from there I stuck with female vocalists. (We just have so much more to scream-sing about.) Since my dog is essentially deaf, I don’t share walls with any neighbors, and my partner leaves for work before I do, I have the luxury of blasting this playlist at the highest volume my bluetooth speakers can achieve throughout my morning kitchen-closet-bathroom rotation.

Whether you rattle your car speakers with these songs or mouth along to the words while you listen through headphones, I hope you have a good morning. The world is a dumpster fire and we’ve all gotta work to live, but at least we have these women. And each other.

“Conga” kicks the list off, because by God, it really will get you out of bed. And to keep you out of bed, the rest of the songs will hopefully tap into your feminine rage.
