Six Years of Earwyrms

ISSUE #275

Earwyrms turns six years old tomorrow, and now that my baby’s old enough for the first grade, I’m going to have to change some things around the house. As a birthday present, I’ll be making two major changes to the newsletter in next few days: 1) the weekly release day of Earwyrms is moving from Fridays over to Tuesdays; and 2) I’ll slowly be transferring this enterprise over to Substack. The first Tuesday issue will be released on April 30th, with Substack coming shortly after.

These changes won’t affect you much outside of when this gets to your inbox and maybe what the emails look like—these changes largely make more sense on the back end. When I started this baby six years ago, new music still came out on Tuesdays; when they switched new music releases to Fridays, it meant I couldn’t listen to a new album before I published an issue unless I stayed up until midnight. Moving us over to the old new music date gives me a weekend to actually digest new music before I recommend it, as well as a poetic symmetry to the joint.

As for Substack, that platform also didn’t exist six years ago. Now, it’s given those of us who love writing—already a starving breed—a slightly easier way to receive donations and fund a living. Earwyrms will remain free, but Substack allows me to introduce new features like album reviews for those who might be interested.

As always, thank you for subscribing and listening. Enjoy this playlist of my heavy rotation right now. I’ll see you all on Tuesday.
